Composition and lyrics [edit]
"One More Night" was written by Adam Levine, Shellback, Max Martin, and Savan Kotecha, while production was handled past Martin and Shellback. Information technology is a reggae-influenced pop vocal[2] where the bass line in the refrain is taken from the song "The Bed'due south Too Big Without You" by The Constabulary.[ citation needed ] According to the sheet music published at Musicnotes.com past Universal Music, the vocal is in the key of F minor and in four
4 fourth dimension with a tempo of 93 beats per minute. It follows a chord progression of Fm–E ♭ –B ♭ thousand, and Levine's vocals span from F3 to C5.[3]
The song's lyrics are virtually a human who feels guilty about staying in a human relationship only for sex.[iv] The chorus finds Levine bewitched by someone he knows he shouldn't be with: "So I cantankerous my centre and I hope to die / That I'll only stay with you lot one more night / And I know I said it a million times / But I'll simply stay with you lot one more than night."[5]
Critical reception [edit]
The song has received mostly mixed to positive reviews from music critics. Neb Lamb of Most.com gave the song 4 out of 5 stars, praising "the catchy reggae-drenched musical product" and "Adam Levine's confident popular vocals".[6] Nonetheless, he wrote: "Adam Levine's singing about beingness guilt-ridden over his part in relationship hell higher up a sunny musical production is feeling somewhat like formula. Nevertheless, for at present, enjoy the vocal's uncomplicated charms, and there will be much more than to examine when the album Overexposed hits stores."[6] Robert Copsey of Digital Spy called information technology "a bouncy, reggae-flecked midtempo with a chorus that feels reassuringly familiar."[7]
Rick Florino of Artist Straight wrote a very positive review, describing the song:
Kicking off with a reggae-way guitar on 'One More than Night', the album starts on a subtle all the same abrupt notation. The push-and-pull of the tumultuous relationship described in the lyrics belies only how slick and swaggering the song's hook is. Mickey Madden's bass is tight and neat, while James Valentine's riffing reaches its nearly diverse and dynamic heights even so on this offering. Matt Flynn lays downward some staggering beats, and PJ Morton's keyboards color the soundscapes vibrantly. At the center of this instrumental majesty, Levine reaches some other level reaching the status of legend alongside Bono and Anthony Kiedis, merging genres while effectively forging something fresh altogether.[viii]
Robbie Daw was divided with the song, writing: "On ane hand, the employment of these slang terms du jour seem a bit of out of character for the Cali ring. Simply then once more, this anthology is exec-produced by Max Martin – so say howdy to the new, (fifty-fifty more than so) commercially-viable Maroon 5."[9] Fraser McAlpine from BBC Music wrote a more mixed review, commenting: "I More Nighttime'southward melody can't go more than a bar or two without repeating – every bit if the ring is worried it may forget itself – or getting stuck on a Morse lawmaking notation for a while, but like a Rihanna song would."[10] Simon Cost from The Contained stated that the vocal is "a piece of electro-reggae that makes Ace of Base sound like Lee "Scratch" Perry.[xi]
